Choosing the Right Carpet part I

How to choose the best carpets and rugs for your home

When choosing a carpet or rug for your home, you will probably want to think about the best style, material and quality. Depending on where you want to put the carpet or rug, the answer may be different every time.

Durability and comfort is a great place to start. Consider the level of foot traffic in your space. Does that include pets? And will you handle the maintenance? Build on what you know to choose the ideal product to create your happy space.

Choosing the best style for your room :

There are roughly three basic styles of carpet: Cut pile is very durable. Its high-density fibres will look velvety, plush or shag. A good option for high-traffic areas as it is easy to clean.

Looped pile carpets are also robust. They have much smaller ‘compact’ loops making it easier to hide heavy use - this is a good option for hallways, stairs and family rooms.

Cut-loop pile is a combo of both options. It can be found in a wide range of styles and patterns, which means you get the benefit of durability but with a host of pattern options, unlike the cut pile.

Snapshot of Popular Materials:

Woven - wool or wool blends are one of the most durable options for carpets and rugs.

Tufted - this synthetic blend is sturdy, long-lasting, and very popular for kitchen rugs, mats for children's play areas, and scatter rugs.

Non-woven felt - you’ll find a range of indoor/outdoor rugs, patterned, printed, engraved and embossed mats, underlay rolls and even bath mats made from these polypropylene fibres or polyester fibres. It’s a strong, versatile and low-cost option that is easy to clean.
